Battle of Dupplin Moor

Opening the Second War of Independence, Edward Balliol and a small army of 'Disinherited' English-backed nobles landed in Fife and were attacked by a far larger Scottish host. Beaumont packed his dismounted men-at-arms between wings of longbowmen; the massed Scottish spearmen crushed together in the narrow valley until men suffocated in the press and were shot down in heaps taller than a spear.

Dupplin Moor pioneered the war-winning English tactic of the century — dismounted men-at-arms flanked by longbows — later perfected at Halidon Hill and against France at Crécy.

The Hundred Days Offensive — Beginning of the End for Germany

Following the success of the Battle of Amiens (August 8), Allied forces under Haig launched a series of relentless offensives that never gave Germany time to recover. Combined arms tactics using tanks, aircraft, and infantry broke German lines repeatedly.

The Hundred Days Offensive shattered Germany's army and convinced Ludendorff that Germany could not win; it ended with Germany's armistice on November 11.
