Temüjin — Genghis Khan — died during the campaign against the Western Xia dynasty, possibly from injuries from a fall from a horse. He had conquered more territory than any person in history, creating an empire stretching from the Pacific to Central Europe.
Genghis Khan's death left an empire covering 22% of Earth's land area; his successors would expand it further, but also fight wars of succession that eventually fragmented Mongol power.
