Battle of Monmouth — Washington Rallies the Army

Washington personally rallied troops retreating under General Charles Lee's orders at Monmouth, the last major battle in the north. The battle was a tactical draw but showed that the Valley Forge-trained Continental Army could stand up to British regulars in open battle.

Monmouth showed that von Steuben's training at Valley Forge had transformed the Continental Army into a professional force capable of European-style linear tactics.
