Battle of Yamen — Fall of the Song Dynasty
The Mongol Yuan fleet destroyed the last Song Chinese fleet in a decisive naval battle, ending the Song Dynasty. A loyalist official jumped into the sea with the 8-year-old Emperor Bing to avoid capture; up to 100,000 Song followers drowned or died in the battle.
The fall of the Song Dynasty completed the Mongol conquest of China, making the Yuan the first foreign dynasty to rule all of China and reshaping Asian history for a century.
