Battle of Pea Ridge — Union Secures Missouri

Union forces under General Samuel Curtis defeated a Confederate army twice their size over two days of fighting in the Ozark Mountains. Two Confederate generals were killed and the rebel army disintegrated.

Pea Ridge secured Missouri for the Union and eliminated any serious Confederate threat to the state for the rest of the war, freeing Union resources for the campaigns further south.
