Battle of Omdurman — Kitchener Reconquers Sudan

British and Egyptian forces under General Kitchener destroyed the Mahdist army near Omdurman using rifle fire and artillery against warriors armed primarily with spears. Of 60,000 Mahdist warriors, over 10,000 were killed; British and Egyptian losses were 48.

Omdurman avenged Gordon's death at Khartoum and restored British prestige in Sudan; the young Winston Churchill participated in the last major cavalry charge in British military history.
