Battle of Stamford Bridge — Last Viking Invasion of England

King Harold II of England defeated the Norwegian Viking army of King Harald Hardrada at Stamford Bridge, killing Hardrada and forcing the survivors to sail home in just 24 ships of the 300 that had arrived. Harold then received news that William of Normandy had landed.

Stamford Bridge ended the Viking Age in England, but Harold's exhausted army had to immediately march south to face the Normans at Hastings — three weeks and 250 miles away.

Liberation of Seoul

Following the Inchon landing, US Marines and Army units drove east to recapture the South Korean capital of Seoul. North Korean defenders fought house-to-house through the city's streets, requiring intense urban combat that caused significant civilian casualties. MacArthur insisted on liberating the capital exactly three months after its fall, staging a dramatic ceremony to restore President Syngman Rhee to power amid streets still echoing with gunfire.

The recapture of Seoul was both a military and symbolic achievement, restoring the South Korean government to its capital and demonstrating the dramatic reversal of fortune achieved through the Inchon operation. It broke North Korean morale and accelerated the collapse of their forces in the south.
