Battle of Culloden — Last Battle on British Soil
In just 25 minutes, government forces under the Duke of Cumberland destroyed the Jacobite army of Bonnie Prince Charlie in the last pitched battle ever fought on British soil. The Jacobites were cut down by artillery and musket fire before they could close with the enemy.
Culloden ended the Stuart dynasty's hopes forever and triggered brutal Highland pacification that destroyed the clan system and accelerated Highland depopulation through emigration.
