Armenian Genocide Begins

The Ottoman government arrested and executed 235-270 Armenian intellectuals and community leaders in Constantinople. This date marks the beginning of the systematic deportation and mass murder of up to 1.5 million Armenians by the Ottoman government.

The Armenian Genocide is considered the first genocide of the 20th century and influenced Hitler, who reportedly referenced it when planning the Holocaust.
