Aftermath of River Raisin — American Prisoners Massacred

The day after the Battle of River Raisin, Native American warriors allied with the British killed wounded American prisoners left behind when British forces withdrew. Between 60 and 100 prisoners were killed in what Americans called a massacre.

'Remember the Raisin!' became the battle cry of American forces throughout the War of 1812, fueling hatred of the British-Native alliance.
