Battle of Mohács — Ottoman Empire Conquers Hungary
Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent's Ottoman army destroyed the Hungarian army in less than two hours, killing King Louis II of Hungary along with most of his nobles. The battle was the most catastrophic military defeat in Hungarian history.
Mohács ended independent medieval Hungary and brought the Ottoman Empire to the gates of Vienna, where it would be repelled in 1529 and again in 1683.
