Heraclius's Anatolian Campaign

622 · Cappadocia / Cilicia (Asia Minor) Theater

Byzantine victory; Heraclius seizes the initiative in Asia Minor.

622

Heraclius took the field in 622 and manoeuvred against Shahrbaraz in Anatolia, regaining the strategic initiative. Later narratives place a victory in or near Cappadocia; the familiar label 'Battle of Issus' is not securely supported.
