September 18, 1863 — Creek crossings
Bragg reaches for the Lafayette Road
Confederate columns attempt to cross West Chickamauga Creek at several bridges and fords to cut the Union route toward Chattanooga. Union mounted formations delay the crossings near Reed’s and Alexander’s bridges while Rosecrans shifts his army north.
WHAT TO NOTICEThe crossings succeed unevenly, and the Union delay gives infantry time to move toward the Lafayette Road.
