Phases
August 28, 1862 — 6:30 PM to Dark
After looting Pope’s supply depot at Manassas Junction, Jackson hides his corps in the woods behind an unfinished railroad grade — then deliberately reveals himself, ambushing a passing Union column at Brawner’s Farm to pin Pope’s army on his front before Longstreet arrives. Gibbon’s brand-new western brigade stands toe-to-toe with the Stonewall Brigade at eighty yards until dark, earning the name it will carry to Gettysburg: the Iron Brigade.
