Siege of Acre

August 1189 – July 1191 · Levantine Coast Theater

Crusader victory; Acre becomes the capital of the rump Kingdom of Jerusalem.

August 1189 – July 1191

The pivotal struggle of the Third Crusade was the nearly two-year siege of the coastal city of Acre, where a crusader army besieging the garrison was itself encircled by Saladin's relief force in a vast double siege of attrition, disease, and assault. The arrival of the kings of England and France finally tipped the balance, and Acre surrendered in July 1191.
