As of August 2026, Libya remains divided between rival western and eastern institutions and security coalitions. UNSMIL’s 2025 roadmap seeks presidential and legislative elections, an inclusive dialogue, and a unified executive. A 4+4 mechanism and structured dialogue advanced recommendations in 2026, but the electoral framework, election commission, and endorsement process remained stalled.
