Phases

November 5, 1757 — Early Afternoon

A Franco-Imperial army of 42,000 under Soubise and Saxe-Hildburghausen begins a wide sweeping march southward, intending to envelop Frederick's left flank and cut his line of retreat. The movement is visible from Janus Hill, where Frederick watches through his telescope. He calmly orders his men to strike their tents and prepare — letting the enemy complete their march into position.
