The Campaign Against Dong Zhuo

190 – 191 AD · Luoyang and the Central Plains Theater

Dong Zhuo retreated to Chang'an with the emperor and was later assassinated. The coalition dissolved into infighting, beginning the true era of warlord rivalry.

190 – 191 AD

When the warlord Dong Zhuo seized the young emperor and made himself dictator, a coalition of eastern lords formed under Yuan Shao to depose him. The coalition was fractious and most lords refused to commit their forces, but Sun Jian fought Dong Zhuo's troops at the gates of Luoyang while Cao Cao led an abortive pursuit. Dong Zhuo burned the Han capital Luoyang and forcibly relocated its population west to Chang'an before his own generals assassinated him in 192.
