Sources & reconstruction notes

This theater replay shows selected armies, corps, and national groupings across nearly two years; it is not a complete order of battle or continuous front. Formation centers, paths, defensive lines, and presentation timing are schematic interpretations of U.S. Army histories, and chapter transitions compress overlapping operations. Modern relief and coastlines do not reconstruct wartime roads, rivers, fortifications, cities, weather, or political boundaries. Italian forces and resistance were diverse and geographically dispersed; their grouping is an acknowledgment, not one field formation. Civilian casualties, occupation, reprisals, forced labor, sexual violence, and destruction are addressed in text rather than animated as effects.
